Four species of marine turtles come ashore to lay their eggs on Bioko Island's southern beaches from November to February: the Atlantic Green (Chelonias mydas), the Leatherback (Dermochelys coriacea), the Hawksbill (Eretmochelys imbricata), and the Olive Ridley (Lepidochelys olivacea).
The 2,000-pound leatherback is the most common followed by the green turtle, the olive Ridley and the hawksbill.
BBPP recently published a paper in Marine Turtle Newsletter about our work with turtles. It provides the most up-to-date account of our efforts.
